MARY ELIZABETH HENTON
Assistant Conductor, Bravo String Orchestra
Mary Elizabeth Henton is the orchestra director at Model Laboratory Schools at Eastern Kentucky University. Mary Elizabeth is a Ph.D. candidate in Music Education at the University of Kentucky. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Music Education and a Rank 1 in Curriculum and Instruction with an endorsement in Gifted and Talented Education.
Mrs. Henton is an active member of the KY Chapter of the American String Teachers Association and was awarded the 2023 Orchestra Director of the Year. Mary Elizabeth is also a member of the Kentucky Music Educators Association and was the Orchestra Chair for the Kentucky Music Educators Association from 2019-2021. She has presented clinics at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference, the National and International Gifted Educators Conference, the
American String Teachers Association National Conference, and the NAfME Eastern Division Conference. Mary Elizabeth has had several published articles in the American String Teacher Journal. Her research topics include the perceived benefits and challenges in peer mentoring in string education, college students’ awareness with musical performance anxiety and self-efficacy, and musical performance anxiety and self-efficacy in music education.
