MARY ELIZABETH HENTON
Conductor, Bravo String Orchestra
Mary Elizabeth Henton is the Learning & Partnership Program Manager with the Lexington Philharmonic. Mary Elizabeth was an orchestra director for grades 4th-12th for twelve years in public and private schools. She is a PhD candidate in music education at the University of Kentucky and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Music Education. She has her Rank 1 in Curriculum and Instruction with an endorsement in Gifted and Talented Education. Mary Elizabeth is the co-conductor of the Bravo Orchestra for the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras.
Mary Elizabeth is an active member of the KY Chapter of the American String Teachers Association and the Kentucky Music Educators Association. She was the Orchestra Chair

for the Kentucky Music Educators Association from 2019-2021. Mary Elizabeth serves on the Community Music Committee for American String Teachers Association, the Connected Arts Network (CAN) Project NAfME, and the Visual and Performing Arts Revision Committee for the Kentucky Department of Education. She has presented clinics at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference, the National and International Gifted Educators Conference, the American String Teachers Association National Conference, and the NAfME Eastern Division Conference. Mary Elizabeth has been published in the American String Teacher Journal. Her research topics include the perceived benefits and challenges of peer mentoring in string education and students’ awareness of musical performance anxiety and self-efficacy.
