REPERTORY ORCHESTRA
SEATING AUDITION EXCERPTS
and
INSTRUCTIONS FALL 2022
Repertory Orchestra Seating Auditions will occur in-person on Tuesday, August 16th. You will be assigned an audition time after August 1. The audition schedule will be emailed out to all members by Friday, August 5th. Auditions will take place at St. Luke United Methodist Church (2351 Alumni Drive, Lexington, KY 40517).

Please prepare all the excerpts presented for your instrument.

In addition to playing the excerpts for the judges, you will also have to perform some sight reading.

We highly recommend you listen to the following recordings of the repertoire that these excerpts are taken from. Listening and becoming familiar with the excerpt in context of the whole score is extremely beneficial.

BOWINGS AND FINGERINGS: Some bowings and fingerings may have been included on the excerpts. Use these as a guide for preparing the excerpts. However, please consult with your private teacher for the best advice for your audition preparation. Modification of any printed bowings or fingerings is acceptable for the audition.
TRANSPOSITIONS: If you play a transposing instrument, please be sure to note the transposition for performance key indicated.
CLEFS: If you play an instrument that reads multiple clefs, please be sure to note which clef is indicated.
TEMPO: The tempo marking for each excerpt is a performance tempo and is intended as a guide. Please consult with your teacher about the optimal tempo choice for your audition that will showcase you the best.
RECORDINGS: The name of the piece and movement of each excerpt is included to help in the process of finding a recording. Please take advantage of all of the recorded resources out there! Listening to (or watching) a recording of the complete piece or movement from which an excerpt is taken is a great way to get to know the piece and the context of your part.
DIVISI: Always play the TOP divisi unless otherwise noted.
