Each conversation will start with an introduction of the evening's guest and then some general info about their presentation topic. We want you to ask lots of questions and be involved in the conversation, rather than it being a lecture. In some ways this gives all our students an even better opportunity to interact with professional musicians and educators and get your questions answered! Each Tuesday we'll send out more specific info about the week's speakers and how to join in on the conversation (Zoom meeting link, etc). As we add additional topics and guest we will add additional weeks on to our Conversation series.
We will also be releasing our #CKYOatHome Masterclass series in the next few weeks once everything has been confirmed with the artists. We expect to begin the masterclasses no earlier than the week of May 18th. We'll also send out info about how to sign up to play in the masterclass and what the requirements from participants will be.
SENIOR Photos and Bios: Seniors, please submit your bios and photos by APRIL 27. Email them to firstname.lastname@example.org
SENIOR PHOTO OFFER: Not only is Ms. Wiggins a phenomenal conductor and musician, but she is also a fabulous photographer. She has offered to take photos (at a socially acceptable distance!) of any CKYO seniors in their caps and gowns with their instruments or in their senior attire/prom attire with their instrument. If you are interested, please complete this info form HERE.
Marcello is offering coachings/feedback to any CKYO student who is interested and his first week has gone well! He really enjoys working with you and hope more students will participate. A form to get on the list to schedule a time with Marcello (or send him a video for him to comment on) is available. Schedule a coaching with Marcello HERE.
CKYO Auditions for the 73rd Season: Audition info is now live! We don't have a date scheduled or the application for you to complete at this time, so if you are planning to audition for a more advanced orchestra for next season, just start preparing your audition materials now so you will be ready once we have a date finalized. Also, CKYO ensemble auditions are only for those students who did not participate in a CKYO orchestra this year or who wish to audition into a more advanced orchestra. If you are interested in remaining in your same ensemble for next year (i.e. you're in Concert Orchestra this year and want to stay in Concert Orchestra next season, etc) or if you are a current Symphony Orchestra member, you are not required to prepare and perform a CKYO Ensemble Audition.
Spring Tuition Refund Information - responses from each family via Google Form are requested and info is available at the link. CKYO Prorated Tuition Refund information available HERE. Or click HERE to go directly to the response form.
Music Sharing project: Anna Watrous, current UK student and CKYO Alum '19, is working on a project to bring some music and positive messages to the lives of people who are alone or isolated during this difficult time. All she is asking is for students to share videos playing music (anything!) and possibly offering a brief message of hope or comfort before of after you play. If you are interested in participating, just visit thisLINK.
Sight Reading Practice!
Now is a great time to practice and improve your sight reading skills and the Sight Reading Factory App is Free! https://www.sightreadingfactory.com/
Students can work on rhythms only or actual sight reading excerpts. For excerpts, just click on the instrument family your instrument is associated with. (Ex. Violin = string family). Then click on your instrument; violas and cellos need to make sure they click on the correct instrument and clef sign. You also have the option to read in other clefs.
From there, pick the level of difficulty, time signature, and key signature. Then click on Free Play. The software will play the excerpt for them if they want, and there is a metronome since rhythm is important when sight reading.
