WELCOME to CKYO!
We believe that every young person with outstanding musical ability and a willingness to work hard should be given the opportunity to develop that skill. The purpose of CKYO is to foster, in cooperation with public and private schools, quality musical opportunities for talented young musicians in the Central Kentucky region and provide affordable, family-friendly concerts to the community.
The Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras (CKYO) is one of the oldest, independently chartered youth orchestras in the United States, with a tradition dating back to 1947. Over 265 students gather from 16 counties and sixty area schools to participate in CKYO. We offer three orchestras; Symphony, Concert and Preparatory as well as opportunities to participate in chamber ensembles.
Dedicated to the musical education and growth of its student members, we provide performance opportunities, motivational workshops, small group instruction, travel, mentoring and quality social interaction. Our season runs September through May and members enjoy a major performance tour at least once every three years. In the summer of 2008, members will be performing in Spain and Portugal.
