Volunteering
As with every non-profit organization, the volunteers are the
backbone and the moving force of the group. At CKYO, we ask volunteers to help
out in a variety of ways.
Rehearsal Monitors
As a safety measure, CKYO requires every parent be a
rehearsal monitor for one rehearsal per year. The responsibilities of the parent
chaperone during the rehearsal will be to supervise the students 15 minutes
before the rehearsal starts, during the break, and after the rehearsal, making
sure the students are safe, behaving in accordance with CKYO policies, and are
traveling to their appropriate destinations in a timely manner. The monitors
will also be available to help in case of an emergency.
CKYO will make a schedule to let parents know of their
designated rehearsal date. If you cannot make it to rehearsal on your assigned
day, you will need to find another parent to swap days. There will be
approximately three parents for every rehearsal – the equivalent of about one
parent per 30 students.
In addition to being a rehearsal monitor, CKYO also has the
following optional volunteer opportunities. We would really love your help!
Please read the following job descriptions and choose the ones that might fit
your interests and schedule.
Concert Day Monitors
This position is similar to the Rehearsal Monitor.
Supervision of the students and directing student flow is needed during the
warm-up rehearsal before a concert.
Run-Out Concert Chaperone
This position requires that the volunteer travel with the
students to a Run-Out Concert on a weekday. At the concert, the Chaperone will
help monitor the students and further assist as needed.
Office Assistants
Throughout the season, extra hands in the office are always
greatly appreciated. Copies need to be made, mailings prepared, data entry, and
files updated. The Office Assistants would be needed during our office hours
only.
Reception Assistants
After every concert, we serve a small reception for our
students, family, and friends. Reception Assistants are needed to help set up,
serve, and clean up.
Transportation Assistants
CKYO’s percussion section equipment and music stands are
stored in the Singletary Center for the Arts. For our concerts at a different
venue, we must transport this equipment. Volunteers are needed to help load and
unload. We are also looking for the use of trucks, vans, or minivans to save on
rental fees.
